Odisha youth chased and hacked on road, critically injured

An incident of violence was reported on Wednesday from Ganjam district, where a youth was brutally attacked on a public road near Gudiali Chhak under Kabisuryanagar police limits. The incident involved a group of five to six assailants who allegedly chased and assaulted the victim with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured.

The injured youth has been identified as Kailash Bhuyan of Gudiali village.

According to police sources, Kailash was riding his motorcycle towards his village when the attackers suddenly intercepted him and launched a violent assault before fleeing the spot.

Some locals rescued and rushed the injured in critical condition to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Kabisuryanagar for initial treatment. Due to the seriousness of his injuries, the youth was later shifted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital (MKCGMCH) in Berhampur for advanced care.

Preliminary information suggests that the attack may be linked to a land-related dispute.

On being informed, police from Kabisuryanagar station reached the crime scene soon after the incident and have launched an investigation to identify those involved and determine the exact cause of the assault.

“The assailants had a date, and they had come to the court for a hearing. Four to five persons, including Guchi Reddy, Gutia Siba, and Radha Bhuyan, were waiting for him (Kailash). On his way back home, he was attacked,” the victim’s father, Arakshita Bhuyan, said.

“Both his legs and hands have been injured in the attack. There is a land dispute pending in the court. There is apparent tension over the issue,” the elderly man stated.

However, no comments were received from the local police in this regard.
