In a horrifying incident, a young woman from Odisha was allegedly murdered in Uttarakhand. Her body was later discovered in a river, tied with stones.
The deceased has been identified as Srushti Sharma, a native of JK Pur area in Rayagada district.
Sharma was employed at a private company in Lalpur area of Uttarakhand, and was staying in a rented accommodation provided by her landlord.
Police investigations revealed that Amit Kumar, the son of her landlord, is the prime accused in the case.
The exact motive behind the murder is still unclear, but police have confirmed that Amit strangled Srushti before disposing of her body in a local river, attempting to hide the crime by tying stones to her body.
The incident came to light after Srushti’s family members failed to contact her on Tuesday. Concerned about her whereabouts, her relatives travelled to Lalpur and, upon finding no trace of her, lodged a missing persons complaint at the local police station.
Acting on the complaint, the police reviewed CCTV footage from the surrounding area and identified Amit as a suspect.
Following intensive questioning, he confessed to the crime and led authorities to the site where the body had been dumped.
Police have recovered the body and taken the accused into custody, sources said. Further investigations are underway to determine the motive behind the killing.
