Major developments have now surfaced following the arrest of the survivor’s boyfriend in the alleged gang-rape case of a second-year MBBS student in Durgapur. Reports indicate that the boyfriend allegedly ‘lured’ the survivor into the forest, and then left her alone for 45 minutes.
Following his arrest, police confirmed that the boy had taken the victim off the campus, spending approximately 45 minutes without her, before returning to the premises. The incident was neither reported to police nor disclosed to anyone at the time, suggesting possible complicity.
The arrest has now intensified scrutiny over his role in the crime. Accordingly, Durgapur police have secured a seven-day remand to investigate his involvement and to determine whether he collaborated with other accused persons.
Father Demands to Leave West Bengal
The victim’s father expressed deep anguish over the incident and demanded strict legal action against all the accused. He also added that he wants an immediate exit from West Bengal and head to Odisha.
Speaking to reporters, he said, “I want all the accused to receive exemplary punishment. We want to leave Bengal for Odisha. My child’s future has been destroyed; all that I pray for now is justice. Whatever has happened to my child has happened. We are deeply pained. The doctors have done what they had to do. I have no more to seek here and just want to return to Odisha and never come to Bengal.”
He further called on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to intervene and ensure a thorough and fair investigation. The father also demanded that the CBI probe the matter, citing his family’s lack of confidence in the state machinery to deliver justice.

Six Arrests in Connection With the Case
The arrest of the victim’s boyfriend is the sixth in the ongoing investigation. Earlier, Durgapur Police had taken into custody five individuals in connection with the crime, including a former college security guard, a hospital staffer, a civic worker, and an unemployed man. These arrests were based on their confirmed presence at the scene and preliminary evidence gathered by investigators.
