Odisha Police SI recruitment scam: Another middleman arrested from Berhampur, probe intensifies

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested another alleged middleman in connection with the Odisha Police Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment examination scam. The latest arrest was made in Berhampur on Friday, officials said.

The accused has been identified as Epili Sitaram, who is alleged to have played a key role in arranging aspiring candidates and facilitating the movement of a bus carrying them to Andhra Pradesh as part of the scam.

Investigators said Sitaram’s involvement came to light during the interrogation of several aspirants linked to the case. Based on the evidence that emerged during questioning, the CBI issued multiple notices to him, directing him to appear for examination.

Sources said Sitaram was summoned to the CBI office on several occasions and subjected to repeated rounds of interrogation. Following this, the agency formally arrested him on Friday.

Chargesheet Filed Against 16 Accused

In the Odisha Police SI recruitment scam, the CBI has already filed a preliminary chargesheet against 16 accused, including the alleged main kingpin, Shankar Prusti. The agency stated that the investigation is still underway and further developments are expected as inquiries progress.

Officials confirmed that Sitaram will be produced before a court on Saturday.

Investigation Expands To Wider Network

Sources indicated that the CBI suspects the involvement of several more individuals in the recruitment scam syndicate. The agency is intensifying its investigation to identify additional accused and uncover the full extent of the network.

Investigators are examining multiple aspects related to Sitaram’s alleged role, including whether he was associated with the syndicate for a prolonged period, the number of aspirants he may have introduced, whether this was his first instance of involvement, and his possible links with other members of the racket.

The CBI reiterated that the probe is continuing and that further arrests cannot be ruled out as the investigation progresses.
