Chhatrapur police have registered a case against nine individuals in Munisipentha village of Ganjam district following allegations that the family of Aska Additional Tehsildar OAS Saudagar Behera faced public humiliation and social exclusion due to his marriage outside the Kaibarta community.
The complaint, lodged by the officer’s father on Friday, Bijay Behera, stated that family members were asked to leave a community wedding feast and were insulted in front of attendees.
The family alleged that the actions were part of continued social pressure from certain sections of the community, which began after the officer’s inter-caste marriage. According to the complaint, they were prevented from participating in community functions and faced restrictions that impacted their social interactions within the village.
Police Action and Case Details
Following the complaint, Chhatrapur police registered an FIR naming nine members of the Kaibarta community. The police held initial discussions with both the officer’s family and community representatives at the local station, though no resolution was reached during the first meeting.
Authorities confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and they are reviewing witness statements and evidence related to the reported incident.
Community Leaders Respond
Representatives of the Kaibarta Samaj have stated that no formal decision to ostracise the family has been taken. They acknowledged disagreements over inter-caste marriage but denied allegations of expulsion.
The Samaj has announced plans for a wider discussion involving senior community leaders to address the reported tensions and examine the claims made by the family. The next round of discussions is expected to include Mahasabha representatives, community leaders, and the family to find a path forward and ensure that social harmony is maintained in the village.

He stated that the family is willing to participate in community dialogue but will not compromise on familial relationships.
