Nuapada by-election: BJP confident of emphatic win, BJD counters with support claims for candidate

Senior BJP leader Jaynarayan Mishra has exuded confidence about the party's lop-sided victory in the upcoming Nuapada by-election. Jaynarayan remarked that it doesn’t seem like BJD is even contesting and it’s just a fill-in-the-blanks exercise.

He further added that BJD did not even have a candidate of its own and the party had to nominate someone from Attabira at the last minute. 

According to the senior saffron leader, given the way politics is moving, BJD is likely to fade away.

Mishra also claimed that people in Nuapada have rejected Congress, and expelled its candidate. 

"They (BJD) don't even have a candidate and they have selected a candidate from Attabira beyond the district. People in Attabira know the character of that candidate. If they had candidate, they would have selected from Nuapada. Had they selected a candidate from Nuapada, there would have been a probability of getting BJD's vote in the area. As they have not given a candidate from Nuapada, I don't think that there is any kind of serious battle. BJD is only doing fill in the blanks exercise. It is only fighting to tell the people that they are fighting. Nobody knows if the candidate given by BJD has seen Nuapada or not," said Jaynarayan Mishra.

"There will not be any fight with Congress as well. The candidate given by the Congress, has been expelled by the people of his society," he added.

While Congress has not yet responded to Mishra’s statement, BJD has issued its own reply.

"The common people have made up their minds to vote for Naveen Patnaik and make Snehangini Chhuria victorious. There is no star war. People in large numbers are thronging to bless Snehangini Chhuria. People in the region have decided to give the right answer to a government who has cheated them in the last one and half year," said BJD MLA Dhruba Sahoo.
