Nuapada 'assault': Case registered against BJD leader Bobby Das, MLA Adhiraj Panigrahi

A case has been registered against BJD leader Bobby Das and Adhiraj Panigrahi at Komna Police Station in Odisha’s Nuapada district, following allegations of assault and verbal abuse against a youth.

According to police sources, Jitu Adabanga, a resident of the Komna area, lodged a complaint accusing the two leaders of assaulting and abusing him at BJD leader Manoj Mishra’s farmhouse. The complainant alleged that he was beaten and verbally abused with abusive language for his association with the BJP.

Jitu claimed that he was assaulted so severely that he could have lost his life had the police not intervened in time. Based on his complaint, a case has been filed under BNS Sections 126(2), 296, 115(2), 351(2), and 3(5).

Police have begun investigating the matter. Meanwhile, reactions from Bobby Das and Adhiraj Panigrahi were not immediately available.

Notably, the controversy erupted on Friday after Adabanga lodged a written complaint against Das and Panigrahi, accusing them of physical assault and verbal abuse.

“I lodged an FIR today against Bobby Das, Adhiraj Panigrahi, and Manoj Mishra. On Thursday at around 2.00 PM, Bobby Das and Adhiraj Panigrahi had called me through another mobile number and asked me to come to the (BJD organisational district) general secretary Manoj Mishra’s farmhouse. After I reached there (the farmhouse), Bobby Das came to me and held my hand tightly. He asked me, ‘you were previously working for BJD, and why are you with the BJP now?’. He held my shirt collar and warned me with dire consequences, saying ‘If you will not work for BJD, you will be eliminated forever’. He even threatened not to spare my family members. They beat me and strangled my throat,” the victim youth, had told mediapersons.
