The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) will organise a massive farmers’ rally in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday, as part of its protest against the BJP government in the state.
Leader of Opposition (LoP) and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik will lead the demonstration. The protest is expected to take place on the main streets of Bhubaneswar, focusing on major issues such as farmers’ distress and the alleged deterioration of law and order.
According to party sources, the BJD has decided to launch a statewide agitation, accusing the government of ignoring serious concerns related to agriculture and public safety. The party announced its plan during a press meet.

"A massive farmers’ rally will be held in Bhubaneswar tomorrow, led by the Biju Janata Dal (BJD). In addition to farmers, hundreds of women and youth are expected to join the protest to raise their voice against farmers’ distress and the alleged deterioration of law and order in the state. BJD president and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik will participate in the rally and address the gathering," said senior BJD leader Prasanna Acharya.
Meanwhile, Odisha BJP State President Manmohan Samal has hit back at the BJD, questioning its moral authority to raise farmers’ issues. He asked what the BJD had done for farmers during its 24 years in power.
"Those who have genuinely worked for the people have the moral authority to speak. The common people are well aware that we are providing Rs 3,100 per quintal for paddy, and farmers are clearly benefiting from this decision. Some are trying to turn a non-issue into an issue. Instead, they should answer what they achieved during their 24 years in power," said Odisha State BJP President Manmohan Samal.
