Missing Odisha lawyer’s car recovered from pond after 90 days; No trace of him till now

Mystery engulfed Uparbeda village under Saraskana block of Mayurbhanj district after villagers discovered an Alto car submerged in the village pond. The car’s registration number revealed it belonged to a lawyer, Gulesh Chandra Gochhayat, who has been untraceable for the past three months. 

Police are now investigating how the car ended up underwater, when it sank, and whether foul play is involved.

The incident came to light when villagers spotted a tyre protruding from the water on Monday morning. Suspicious, they alerted others and soon realised an entire car was submerged beneath the surface. Jharpokharia Police reached the spot immediately and pulled the vehicle out of the pond with local assistance.

Missing Lawyer Connection

Upon checking the number plate, police traced the vehicle to advocate Gulesh Chandra Gochhayat, reported missing three months ago by his family. Since the day of his disappearance, his mobile phone has remained switched off, adding to the mystery.

A strong odour emanating from the car has fuelled speculation that someone may have drowned inside, though police have not confirmed anything yet.

Forensic Team Awaited

A scientific team has been called to examine the vehicle. Authorities say the car will only be opened in their presence to ensure evidence is preserved. 

The recovery of the missing lawyer’s car has triggered widespread curiosity and concern in the region. As forensic experts begin their examination, police hope crucial clues will emerge potentially shedding light on the lawyer’s disappearance and the circumstances that led to his vehicle sinking in the pond.
