In a daring late-night robbery, miscreants looted ornaments worth around Rs 50 lakh from a jewellery shop after cutting open the shutter on Monday.
The incident reportedly took place at a jewellery store near Thakurhat under Kendrapara Sadar police station limits.
Reports suggest, the miscreants allegedly looted about 220 grams of gold and 12kg of silver ornaments. After the rampage, the accused fled the spot abandoning a motorcycle outside the shop. The police recovered a gas cutter, a helmet, and gloves from the crime scene during the investigation. All the evidence has been seized.
According to reports, the jewelry shop owner Dipti Ranjan Sahu said he noticed two to three persons standing inside the shop while checking the CCTV feed on his mobile phone late at night, following which he immediately informed the police. The police acted swiftly, and rushed to the scene, however, the miscreants fled the scene, as they spotted the police approaching.
Narrating the incident, the shop owner said, “I was checking the CCTV footage of my shop on my mobile phone between 1 and 2 am. During the live feed, I noticed two to three unidentified persons standing outside the shop. Moments later, I saw them break in and start collecting jewellery in a bag. They failed to break open the locker but managed to loot all the ornaments kept outside it. All the silver jewellery and 1-gram gold ornaments have been stolen.”
The Kendrapara Sadar police have launched an extensive investigation into the incident. However, no official response from the police has been received so far.
