On December 3, 2025, the Odia sculptor had received a formal invitation from Rashtrapati Bhavan, giving him the long-awaited opportunity to personally meet the President.

Journey of the Balasore-based artist—from creating a nationally admired sculpture to being invited to Rashtrapati Bhavan—was truly inspiring.

“The President asked me whether I had carved the stone statue. I had told her that the stone was brought from Mayurbhanj district. After hearing this, she had become immensely happy. All of a sudden, I was felicitated by the President. I am very much indebted to her for the honour given to me,” the Odia sculptor said to OTV, when contacted.

“It was indeed a great moment when an ordinary sculptor like me was felicitated by the President. I want youngsters should not run after government jobs. Rather, they can earn name and fame by adopting the art of sculpture making,” Upendra Giri stated.
