Panic prevailed in Bhubaneswar’s Khandagiri area after miscreants allegedly carried out a late-night robbery at a guesthouse in Gandamunda on Thursday. A group of youths reportedly barged into the guesthouse, assaulted the staff and a guest, and looted cash from the reception counter.
According to reports, the attackers also attempted to assault a young woman staying at the guesthouse before fleeing the scene.
Upon receiving information, Khandagiri police rushed to the spot and launched a chase. Three youths were subsequently detained near the Chandrasekharpur police station area and are currently in police custody. The vehicle allegedly used in the crime has been seized.
Police have begun scanning CCTV footage from the guesthouse as part of the investigation. An inquiry is underway to ascertain the exact motive behind the incident and to determine whether the accused entered the premises solely with the intention to loot or for any other reason.
Similar Robbery Reported in Nayapalli
In a separate incident earlier, an early-morning robbery triggered panic in the Gadasahi locality of Nayapalli. A miscreant allegedly held a woman at gunpoint and looted her gold ornaments.
According to police sources, the accused locked the house from the outside, pointed a firearm at the woman, and forcibly snatched her gold earrings and other ornaments before fleeing the scene. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
