In a heart-touching gesture highlighting the humane side of the justice system, the Orissa High Court on Wednesday granted interim bail to a life convict so that he could stay beside his daughter and support her during her matriculation examinations.
Srinibas Patra of Alipingal village, currently serving a life sentence at the Jagatsinghpur District Sub-Jail, has been behind bars for the past three years following his conviction in a criminal case. Despite his incarceration, one bond has remained unbroken: his responsibility as a father.
Milestone In Daughter's Life
This year marks an important milestone in his daughter’s life as she is appearing for her matriculation examinations. However, the examination centre is located nearly five kilometres away from their home, making daily travel difficult and stressful for the young student. With no reliable support system to accompany her, the situation became a matter of deep concern for Srinibas.

Determined to stand by his daughter during this crucial phase, he moved the court seeking temporary bail to escort her to and from the examination centre and provide emotional guidance. Taking a compassionate view of the matter, the High Court granted him interim bail until March 10.
Justice Punishes Wrongdoing
The decision is being seen as a powerful reminder that while justice punishes wrongdoing, it also recognises the enduring strength of family ties and the importance of a child’s education.
“I’m thankful. I had appealed before the Honourable Orissa High Court for my daughter’s Matric exam, as she was morally depressed in my absence. The HC took a wise decision and granted me a 10-day interim bail. So, I’m very happy,” the girl’s father, Srinibas Patra.
