The Odisha Home Department expressed serious concern on Wednesday over the failure of senior officials to provide information regarding vacant posts under their respective departments, despite repeated instructions. Sources indicate that details of vacant positions have not yet been submitted by several key offices, prompting the department to issue fresh directives ahead of an important review meeting.

In a formal communication, the Special Secretary of the Home Department had instructed concerned authorities to submit complete and updated data on vacant posts before the 15th of this month. Letters have been officially sent to the Director General of Police (DGP), Director General of Fire Services, and Director General of Prisons, directing them to furnish the required information within the stipulated timeline.

The Home Department has also sought vacancy details from the Registrar of the Orissa High Court and the Judicial Academy, indicating that the issue spans multiple wings and institutions under its administrative purview. The delay in submitting the data has raised questions about administrative preparedness, particularly at a time when staffing shortages are a major concern across key public safety and law enforcement agencies.

Officials said that the information is urgently required ahead of a secretary-level meeting scheduled on the 15th, where recruitment planning, manpower assessment, and policy decisions are expected to be discussed.
