Newly elected Nuapada MLA Jay Dholakia arrived at the BJP state headquarters in Bhubaneswar on Saturday following his decisive victory in the Nuapada bypoll. Party workers accorded a large welcome to Dholakia, who is scheduled to visit Puri to offer prayers at the Jagannath Temple later today.

Sources reported that Jay Dholakia arrived at the BJP state office earlier in the day and was greeted by senior party leaders, including CM Mohan Majhi and Odisha BJP chief Manmohan Samal. Photographs and garlands marked the reception as leaders and cadre posed with the newly elected legislator.

Speaking at the event, Dholakia thanked the voters of Nuapada and the state leadership for their support. “This victory is not mine alone. It belongs to the people of Nuapada,” he said at the event.

In an apparent jibe at the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), he said that those who had ‘disrespected’ the legacy of his late father and former BJD MLA Rajendra Dholakia had “faced the people’s response.”

CM Majhi Reiterates Development Agenda

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi reiterated the state government’s development commitments for Nuapada. Majhi said the region had been neglected for 24 years and outlined past interventions taken by his administration.

He cited the inauguration of projects valued at Rs 1,101 crore for Nuapada and administrative upgrades, including the upgradation of Khariar Road to municipality status and designating Komna and Sinapali as Notified Area Councils (NACs).

“As Chief Minister, I had announced to take responsibility for Nuapada’s development after Rajendra Dholakia’s demise. I had inaugurated projects worth Rs 1,101 crore and dedicated them to the people of Nuapada,” Majhi said at the event.

“The people of Nuapada were neglected for 24 years. Now that there has been a change in the government, there will certainly be development of this region,” the CM said.

In the Nuapada bypoll counting held on Friday, counting figures released by the election authorities yesterday showed that Jay Dholakia polled 1,23,869 votes. Congress candidate Ghasi Ram Majhi secured 40,121 votes, while BJD’s Snehangini Chhuria obtained 38,408 votes. The final victory margin for Dholakia was 83,748 votes, according to the official tally published by the Election Commission.
