Internet shut down for 24 hours in Odisha’s Malkangiri as tension escalates

Tension continues to rise in Malkangiri, particularly in MV-26 and Rakhelguda villages, prompting the administration to impose a 24-hour suspension of internet services in the district on Monday. 

As per reports, the situation intensified after a headless body of a woman was recovered from a river in Rakhelguda village.

Following the incidents of arson reported yesterday, groups from both sides gathered at multiple locations. In Rakhelguda, people assembled carrying traditional weapons, while another group mobilised in large numbers in Malkangiri town, further heightening the tension.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made in the area to prevent any kind of untoward incidents following the development.

Notably, the woman's body was found floating in the river under mysterious circumstances, raising serious suspicion of foul play.

Following the incident, both villages came face-to-face amid growing unrest and allegations related to the woman’s death. The situation turned tense as locals demanded clarification and immediate action from the authorities.

It is suspected that the woman might have been murdered by some persons from the other village over a property-related matter. Some individuals reportedly vandalised and set houses on fire in the MV-26 village on Sunday. However, local police immediately intervened and kept things under control.

The investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of the death.
