The attempted break-in came to light early this morning when a bank employee noticed the damaged shutter upon arrival. The staff immediately alerted Dhusuri Police, who, along with a scientific investigation team, rushed to the spot and began a detailed probe.
At this stage, it remains unclear whether anything was stolen or how much was taken, if at all. Authorities stated that the exact extent of the attempted theft will be known only after a thorough investigation.
The incident has prompted security reviews at other financial institutions in the region, highlighting the need for stronger surveillance and nighttime security protocols.
“Loot was attempted by some miscreants at the Dhusuri UCO Bank branch late last night. In the meantime, siren of the bank alerted local police. Swinging into action, Dhusuri police reached the spot and thwarted the loot bid,” Bhadrak Additional SP, Arup Abhishek Behera, said to mediapersons.
“As per the information we have till now, no loot has been there. The robbery attempt was foiled. SDPO and other senior officials are conducting a probe,” the ASP stated.
Worth mentioning, earlier in another incident, four armed miscreants had allegedly looted more than Rs 7.55 lakh from a private small finance bank located in Tihidi Bazaar area of Bhadrak district on June 12 this year.
The robbers had entered the bank wearing masks and held the bank manager at gunpoint while demanding cash. Creating panic among the staff and customers, they had swiftly collected the money and fled the scene before the police could reach the spot.
