A sudden spell of heavy rain brought traffic to a grinding halt at several routes across Bhubaneswar on Wednesday with hundreds of vehicles including buses stranded on both sides of major roads across the city.
Major roads, including the Janpath, NH-16, and Sahid Nagar, Vani Vihar and others witnessed severe traffic snarls as hundreds of cars, buses, and two-wheelers remained stranded for hours.
Commuters faced significant delays, with some reporting travel times of more than double the usual duration. Public transport services, including city buses, were disrupted, leaving passengers waiting in waterlogged areas.
Earlier, the Regional weather office had issued a yellow warning for Khordha for rainfall. The warning was also sounded for of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati.
Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places are expected at one or two places in these districts.
