Heavy New Year footfall recorded at Nandankanan Zoo, likely to surpass last year's numbers

Nandankanan Zoological Park witnessed a massive influx of visitors on New Year’s Day as tourists from across Odisha and several other states thronged the popular wildlife destination to usher in the New Year. The annual holiday rush turned the zoo into a hub of activity, with families and groups arriving in large numbers from the early morning hours.

According to officials from the zoo’s visitor management division, nearly 10,000 to 11,000 visitors had already entered the premises by 12 noon. Given the steady inflow, authorities estimate that the total footfall for the day may surpass last year’s New Year record of approximately 43,000 visitors. The numbers are expected to rise significantly as the day progresses.

Special Arrangements for Visitors

Anticipating the heavy rush, the zoo authorities had made elaborate arrangements to ensure smooth crowd management, visitor convenience, and safety. 

Adequate facilities for clean drinking water have been set up at multiple locations across the zoo premises to cater to the large number of visitors. Additional staff have been deployed to regulate entry, manage queues, and guide tourists.
Medical and Safety Measures in Place

To address any medical emergencies, a dedicated medical team has been deployed to provide primary healthcare to visitors. As a precautionary measure, fire service personnel and ODRAF teams have also been stationed inside the zoo.

With large crowds and enhanced safety arrangements, Nandankanan Zoological Park continues to remain a preferred New Year destination. Authorities remain on alert to ensure a smooth and safe experience as visitor numbers continue to rise through the day.
