In an unusual turn of events, a woman allegedly killed her husband following a family dispute at Krishnachandrapur village under Soro police limits in Balasore district on Monday.
Acting on a complaint filed by the deceased’s father, police detained the daughter-in-law and launched an investigation into the matter. The deceased has been identified as Rishi Das.
According to sources, Rishi, who was reportedly addicted to alcohol, would often assault his wife Urmila. Villagers said they had intervened multiple times in the past and had even helped the couple reach a settlement at the panchayat level.
However, on Monday night, Rishi allegedly returned home in an inebriated condition and assaulted Urmila once again. Enraged and unable to bear the abuse, Urmila is said to have attacked him on the head with a sharp weapon. Instead of shifting him to a hospital, family members kept him at home, where he succumbed to his injuries.

On Tuesday morning, while villagers were preparing for the funeral, a team from Soro police along with scientific personnel reached the spot for investigation. The body was seized and sent to Soro Medical for post-mortem.
Police registered a case, conducted the autopsy, and later handed the body over to the family. Urmila has been detained for questioning as further investigation continues.
Meanwhile, Rishi’s father has alleged that his daughter-in-law brutally assaulted and murdered his son. Police are verifying all angles as the probe progresses.
