An attempted theft at a residence in Amarda Road under Basta police limits in Balasore district was thwarted early Saturday morning, following swift action by alert locals who identified suspicious behaviour. Two youths were subsequently detained and later handed over to the police. The accused have been identified as Aabed and Usman, residents of Kadarayan village under Singla police station.
According to local sources, the duo arrived in the area on the pretext of selling something. Shortly afterwards, they allegedly entered the house of one Gangadhar Sahoo, attempting to steal a mobile phone placed inside the premises.
Family members reportedly noticed unusual noise and movement inside the house and immediately suspected a theft attempt. When confronted, the accused attempted to flee the spot but was stopped and restrained by residents nearby, who had gathered after hearing the commotion.
Police personnel from the Amarda Road outpost reached the scene shortly after being informed. The detained suspects were escorted to the police station for questioning.
