An 85-year-old man, Padmanabha Sahoo, was allegedly killed by his son at Ebarida village in Ganjam after a dispute over pension money, police said.

Elderly man beaten to death

According to sources, Padmanabha and his son, Ramesh Sahoo, had been embroiled in a long-standing family dispute. The quarrel reportedly escalated on Saturday, soon after Padmanabha received his pension, leading to the fatal attack.

Police said Ramesh, who was reportedly intoxicated, demanded the pension amount from his father. When Padmanabha refused, Ramesh allegedly flew into a rage and assaulted him brutally, leading to his death. The incident came to light on Sunday morning when villagers informed the police. Kabisuryanagar Police have detained the accused and launched an investigation.

The body has been sent for post-mortem. Further inquiry is underway to determine the sequence of events and the exact motive behind the crime.
