Darjeeling woman critical after boyfriend slits her throat near Buddha Park in Bhubaneswar

A woman from Darjeeling is battling for her life after her boyfriend allegedly slit her throat near Buddha Park under Chandrasekharpur police limits in Bhubaneswar on Sunday morning. The incident triggered shock in the locality, where the woman had been running a small momo stall for the past few months.

According to a preliminary police investigation, the couple had reached Buddha Park early in the morning when an argument broke out between them. The accused, identified as Tinku Gurum, reportedly confronted the woman over suspicion that she was involved in an affair with another man. 

Police said Tinku was increasingly insecure in recent days, and this suspicion appears to have escalated into a violent confrontation.

“She has been cheating several men. I am married to her, but she is now denying and was in a relationship with another man,” the accused said.

Eyewitnesses told police that the verbal dispute quickly intensified. In a sudden and furious reaction, Tinku allegedly pulled out a sharp weapon and slit the woman’s throat, leaving her collapsed on the spot. Passersby rushed to her aid and immediately restrained Tinku before he could flee. The police were alerted soon after.

The severely injured woman was taken to a nearby private hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.

Chandrasekharpur police have arrested the accused and will produce him before the court. Investigators have registered a suo motu case and are examining the sequence of events leading up to the attack. Police have also informed the victim’s family members in Darjeeling.

Officers said further action will be taken based on the woman’s medical condition and her statement once she is fit to speak.
