Cuttack violence: DCP issues two helpline numbers to curb rumours, ensure peace in Silver City

In a proactive step to ensure peace and to counter any probable spread of rumours, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Cuttack UPD, issued two helpline numbers for the public on Thursday.

The move comes in the wake of recent unrest during Dussehra festivities in the millennium city.

Citizens are advised not to trust or circulate unverified or false information. The DCP has appealed to residents to report any suspicious messages or rumours directly to the police via the following mobile numbers: 7328077324 and 8480513007.

“Commissionerate Police urges all citizens not to believe or spread any rumour or misinformation on social media regarding communal riot. In case any such suspicious message or misinformation is found, please inform us at the mentioned mobile numbers. This step of yours will play a major role in restoring peace and harmony in society and will be a token of your awareness and responsibilities,” the DCP said in a post on X handle.

This initiative aims to strengthen community-police collaboration and prevent the spread of panic or misinformation through social media and messaging platforms.

The police have emphasised that public support is crucial in preserving law and order during sensitive times.

Authorities have also called on residents to play a responsible role in maintaining communal harmony and ensuring that the situation in the city remains peaceful and stable.

Earlier in the day, in connection with the recent group clash in Cuttack City, three more persons were arrested, bringing the total number of arrests to nine. This was confirmed by ACP Girija Shankar Chakrabarty, who also stated that more arrests could follow in the days ahead as the investigation progresses.

Worth mentioning, two groups clashed during the immersion procession, leading to tension in some localities of the city. Four people, including DCP, were injured in the clash.
