In a major development in the February 18 firing incident in Cuttack, police have arrested one person on Thursday in connection with the murder of Soumya Ranjan Jena that shocked the Press Colony area under Madhupatna police limits.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) confirmed that two individuals were involved in the crime, with efforts ongoing to apprehend the absconding main accused.
The victim, identified as Soumya Ranjan Jena, was allegedly shot during a feast with his friends. What was meant to be a social gathering quickly descended into chaos and panic after the miscreants shot him following a momentary issue.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Despite doctors’ best efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. The incident has left residents of the area shaken.

Investigation Underway
While one accused has been taken into custody, the key suspect remains at large, and a manhunt is underway to trace him. Authorities are probing multiple angles, including possible personal enmity or disputes, though no official motive has yet been confirmed.
Police also stated that they would write to the administration seeking demolition of an abandoned house in Press Colony, reportedly linked to the incident.
Few hours ago, tension escalated outside Madhupatna Police Station on after family members of Rinku, placed his body outside the PS and staged a protest demanding justice.
The family members, along with relatives, neighbours and other locals, placed the body of deceased Soumyaranjan Jena in front of the police station, urging authorities to take immediate action.
