Class IX student allegedly gang-raped in Odisha, six including five juveniles detained

In a shocking incident, a Class IX student was allegedly gang-raped by her classmates at a school located under the jurisdiction of Turekela police station in Odisha's Bolangir district.

According to sources, the alleged crime occurred after tuition classes at the school. The victim has accused her fellow students of sexually assaulting her on the school premises. 

The matter came to public attention after a video related to the incident allegedly went viral, triggering widespread outrage.

Following the incident, the victim’s relatives approached the Bolangir Superintendent of Police and lodged a formal complaint. Acting on the complaint, police initiated an investigation and detained six accused including a 22-year-old youth and five minor boys.

As per sources, all the accused are being questioned as part of the investigation. Further legal action is being taken in accordance with the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act and other relevant acts.

According to Bolangir SP, the incident occurred on December 25.

The day before, miscreants allegedly attempted to rape a minor girl and later tied her hands and legs before abandoning her in a forest under the Belghar Police Station area in Kandhamal district.
