In a shocking incident on Thursday night, the body of a final-year B.Tech student was recovered from his rented house in the College Road area of Gunupur in Rayagada district. The deceased has been identified as Rudranarayan Behera, a Biotechnology student at a private university in Gunupur.
According to reports, Rudranarayan was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside his home when no one else was present. Neighbours informed the police after noticing the absence of the student for a prolonged period.
On receiving the information, Gunupur police reached the scene and immediately shifted him to the local sub-divisional hospital, where the doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Police claimed to have recovered a suicide note from the spot, in which Rudranarayan stated that he had spent Rs 60,000 from his mother’s bank account, which allegedly led him to take the extreme step. The reasons behind his suicide are still unclear, and authorities are probing all possible angles.

Following a post-mortem conducted at the sub-divisional hospital, the body was handed over to his family members for the last rites. Gunupur police have registered a case and are continuing the investigation to ascertain the circumstances that led to this tragic incident.
