Tension gripped Solpata village under Nayagarh Town police limits late Tuesday night after a group of unidentified miscreants allegedly hurled bombs after their attempted dacoity failed. The explosion left three villagers injured. One accused was captured by locals and handed over to the police. Others involved in the incident reportedly fled the scene and are currently on the run.
According to sources, the incident took place in Solpata, under Bhatsahi panchayat, when a gang of miscreants attempted a dacoity.
As villagers raised an alarm and resisted the intruders, the assailants allegedly hurled crude bombs in retaliation before escaping under the cover of darkness. The explosion caused serious injuries to at least three people, who were immediately rushed to the Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for treatment.
Witnesses said panic spread across the village as the bombs went off in quick succession, shattering the quiet of the night. We heard two loud blasts and rushed out. Some villagers managed to overpower one of the attackers while the rest fled,” a resident recounted.
Villagers Overpower One Attacker
Local residents acted swiftly, surrounding the area and managing to capture one of the dacoits after a brief chase. The accused was reportedly beaten by villagers before being handed over to the police. Following the alert, a team from Nayagarh Town Police Station reached the spot, secured the area, and launched an initial investigation.
Police sources confirmed that one suspect is in custody, while search operations are underway to trace the remaining members of the gang. The seized accused is being interrogated to determine the group’s identity, origin, and possible past involvement in similar crimes.
