Bhubaneswar cab driver death case takes new turn; marital status of deceased under spotlight

The investigation into the alleged murder of cab driver Satyabrata has taken a significant turn after police uncovered that he was already married and had a three-year-old child, a detail reportedly unknown to his partner and now believed to be crucial to the case.

Commissionerate Police intensified the probe after the prime accused, Dinesh Nayak, surrendered at Jagatsinghpur Sadar Police Station on Tuesday. He was subsequently taken into custody for further investigation. Police sources said he will be produced before a court, following which investigators are likely to seek custodial interrogation to piece together the sequence of events leading to Satyabrata’s death.

Officials are examining whether the car accident linked to the incident was deliberately staged to disguise a murder. Investigators suspect that the revelation of Satyabrata’s marital status may have triggered tensions, as frequent arguments reportedly took place after the truth surfaced. Earlier, Dinesh’s alleged girlfriend, Liza, was detained and questioned. Police said she was unaware that Satyabrata was married.

Attack Caught on CCTV

According to investigators, the alleged assault was captured on a CCTV camera installed outside the residence where the incident occurred. Several eyewitnesses were present at the scene, and their statements are currently being recorded.

Police said that after sustaining grievous injuries, Satyabrata ran onto the main road seeking help before collapsing. Local residents alerted authorities after spotting him in an injured condition. He was later declared dead.

Car Owner’s Role Under Investigation

The role of the vehicle owner has also come under scrutiny. Investigators are probing the owner’s actions after receiving information about the incident. Police said the owner rushed to Bhubaneswar along with another driver to retrieve the vehicle.

During the attempt to leave the city, the car was allegedly driven at high speed and rammed through a barricade at Sishu Bhawan Square, before plunging onto an asbestos roof beneath a flyover. Authorities are examining whether this sequence of events was accidental or part of an effort to evade investigation.
