Asphalt-laden truck gutted by fire in Odisha, narrow escape for driver

In an unusual incident, an asphalt-laden Hyva truck caught fire suddenly and was completely gutted on the Jaypatna-Mottr road under Kalampur police station in Kalahandi district on Saturday.

The incident occurred near Bijamara village, sending panic among locals in the area.

According to reports, the Hyva truck was transporting asphalt when one of its tyres suddenly burst near the Bijamara turning. Moments later, the vehicle caught fire and soon went up in flames, with the asphalt fuelling the blaze and causing the fire to spread rapidly.

The driver of the truck managed to jump out in time and narrowly escaped unhurt. He initially tried to douse the flames on his own, but the intensity of the fire made his efforts futile.

Upon being informed, the local fire services rushed to the spot and, after considerable effort, managed to bring the fire under control. 

No casualties were reported in the incident, but the fire caused a temporary disruption to traffic on the road. An investigation is underway to assess the extent of the damage and ascertain further details.
