In a significant breakthrough, the Commissionerate Police has detained Siba Pradhan, the alleged mastermind behind the murder of AIIMS employee Sudhanshu Khuntia, who was killed on October 13 in the Sarkantra area. The killing reportedly arose from a long-standing property dispute.
Sources said that the alleged mastermind was detained following a detailed operation carried out in coordination with the Khandagiri police. A firearm has also reportedly been recovered from the accused, sources said.
Earlier, four other suspects involved in the case had been taken into custody, while the main accused had managed to evade arrest for several weeks, causing distress to the victim’s family.
Notably, the family members of the deceased continued to live in fear as the main accused and his associates have allegedly issued life threats to them. Seeking safety and justice, Khuntia’s family members had approached the Police Commissioner, demanding immediate action and protection.
Police have assured strict action against all involved and are investigating whether there were any other accomplices in the case.
Notably, Khuntia, a lab assistant of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, was shot dead near Ransinghpur, under Khandagiri Police Limits, while he was on his way to work around 8 am on October 13.
