After Kendrapara horror, another minor schoolgirl ‘raped’ in Cuttack; bus driver arrested

A minor schoolgirl was allegedly sexually assaulted in the Cantonment Police Station area of Cuttack, triggering concern among local residents and parents.

According to police, the accused, a bus driver associated with the student’s transportation, has been taken into custody following a complaint. His identity has been withheld in view of ongoing legal proceedings.

Preliminary reports indicate that the victim, a student of a private school in the city, used the bus service for her daily commute. Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the alleged assault, including the exact location where the incident occurred.

Uncertainty Over Vehicle Ownership

Police officials said statements are being recorded and potential witnesses are being questioned to ascertain the sequence of events. It is also being verified whether the vehicle was operated directly by the school or privately hired for student transport.

Demands For Enhanced Safety Measures

The incident has prompted demands from parents and local residents for stricter safety measures in school transportation systems. Calls have been made for mandatory installation of functional CCTV cameras and enhanced monitoring of vehicles transporting students.

Senior police officials assured that a detailed investigation is underway and appropriate legal action will follow based on medical examination results and findings of the probe.

Recently, a class 7 student of private English medium school was allegedly gang raped triggering outrage across the State. The police have arrested five persons including four teachers in connection with the case. Meanwhile, the case has been tagged under ‘red flag’ category.
