Accident or planned murder? Investigation intensifies in mysterious death of OTV correspondent Ramakant Mahanand

The death of OTV Rairakhol correspondent Ramakant Mahanand has sparked widespread concerns, prompting a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. A forensic team on Thursday reached the spot to examine evidence, as questions continue to emerge over whether the death was purely accidental or the result of a deliberate attack.

According to initial information, Ramakant, working as a journalist for OTV, was found lying near Champali Nala on the 8th of the month, with his bike beside him. He was immediately taken for medical attention, but doctors declared him dead upon arrival. While early assessments suggested an accident, Ramakant’s family strongly suspects foul play.

His elder brother, Umakant Mahanand, had earlier filed a written complaint at the Naktideula Police Station in Sambalpur, alleging that Ramakant may have been murdered and the scene manipulated to resemble a road accident. The family’s suspicion stems from Ramakant’s consistent reporting on illegal ganja trade and various corruption-related issues. They fear that his fearless journalism may have made him a target for antisocial elements affected by his exposes.

Umakant has urged the police to conduct a fair and thorough investigation and take strict action against whoever is responsible. The condition of the accident site, contradictory visuals, and several unanswered questions have only deepened the mystery surrounding Ramakant’s death.

Meanwhile, locals and colleagues have demanded transparency in the probe, stressing that attacks on journalists threaten the very foundation of free and fair reporting. As the forensic team continues its examination, authorities are expected to reveal more details in the coming days.
