Renowned Odia music composer Abhijit Majumdar passed away at AIIMSBhubaneswar on Sunday. He was 54 at the time of his demise.
His death has cast a pall of gloom over the Odia film and music industry, with artistes, politicians and fans across Odisha expressing deep grief and condolences.
Condolences Pour In
Odisha CM Mohan Majhi expressed grief over the demise of Majumdar. Taking to his X handle, formerly Twitter, he wrote, "I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of renowned vocalist and music director Abhijit Majumdar. His demise is an irreparable loss to our music, cinema, and culture. I convey my condolences to the bereaved family and pray to Lord Shri Jagannath for the peace of the departed soul. Om Shanti."
BJP national VP and Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda posted on social media, "The end of an era in the Odia music world. Hearing the news of the untimely demise of Shri Abhijit Majumdar, Odisha's renowned and popular music director and singer, has left me deeply saddened. His passing is an irreplaceable loss for the Odia music world. While praying for the departed soul's eternal peace, I convey my deepest condolences to the bereaved family members.

Tributes Pour In From Music Industry
Several leading figures from the Odia music fraternity paid tribute to Majumdar, remembering both his professional legacy and his personal warmth.
Music director Goodly Rath said, “No one can take his place. It is a huge loss. His demise is very painful. Odisha has lost a great composer and I have lost a great friend. We were all hopeful that he would return. Recently, Humane Sagar’s death rattled us, and now Abhijit’s demise has left the Odia music industry in shock and grief. Such talented people passing away is a huge loss.”
Enduring Musical Legacy
Music director Premanand described Majumdar’s death as a collective loss for the state. “This is not only a shock for me but for entire Odisha. The era that he created through his music will last forever. Abhijit Majumdar will remain in everyone’s heart through his music. We may not see him anymore, but we will always feel his presence around us. Birth and death are in God’s hands, but untimely deaths are very painful. After Humane’s death, we were very hopeful that Abhijit would survive. I pray to Lord Jagannath to give strength to his family and grant peace to his soul,” he said.
Remembered As An Influential Figure
Actress Pinki Pradhan also recalled her association with the composer. “He was a very good person. I worked with him many times and I pray for the peace of his soul. There were many who were jealous of his achievements, as he made the Odia music industry more popular and generated livelihood for many. We have many artistes, but he was a true performer,” she said.

Majumdar was widely recognised for his significant contribution to Odia music, having composed more than 700 songs during his career. His work spanned films and independent music, and he was regarded as one of the most influential composers of his generation in the state.
