Cuttack: The Ravenshaw University authorities have postponed the examinations for Under Graduate (UG) and Post-graduate (PG) students scheduled for today.
The decision to put the test on hold was taken following detection of two Covid-19 positive cases in the varsity, Examination Controller Trilochan Mishra said.
The exams would be rescheduled after the covid situation improves, he added.
A sudden jump in the number of positive cases in the twin city-Cuttack and Bhubaneswar has become a major cause of concern. The twin city continues to witness daily spike in the covid-19 positive cases.
Fresh cases from educational institutes have given a headache to the civic bodies. Recently, a residential college in Cuttack city had been sealed after a number of students and staffers had tested positive for the virus.
Similarly, 45 students had tested Covid positive at Xavier Institute of Management (XIMB), a leading management school in Bhubaneswar. The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) sealed the campus in order to prevent the spread of the virus.
In view of a steady rise in fresh cases, the civic body in Bhubaneswar has decided to conduct random testing at various educational institutes and hostels, BMC Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary said.
The Commissioner had visited the Railway Station and Airport yesterday and held discussion with the authorities regarding screenings and testings. He said that as many as 200 travellers would undergo Covid test at the railway station on a daily basis.
Earlier, Covid tests were conducted only on symptomatic travellers coming from high risk or red flag States.
