Bhubaneswar: Opposition BJP in Odisha has turned up the heat on the State government over alleged loopholes into the probe of kidnapping and brutal murder case of the five-year-old Nayagarh girl Pari by intensifying their protest.
While the demonstration of the chief opposition party in front of the Nayagarh Collector’s office entered the fourth day, the party activists also staged a protest before the Raj Bhawan on Monday.
Protesting the alleged lackadaisical investigation and continuation of Arun Sahoo in his post even after his alleged links with the suspects surfaced, several activists including State President Samir Mohanty and General Secretary Lekhashree Samantasinghar joined the protest. They demanded immediate resignation of Sahoo.
“Minister Arun Sahoo has intimidated the local Sarpanch not to raise his voice over the issue. The parents of Pari have also named the accused as Babuli Nayak, who has close links with the minister. Therefore, we demand the resignation of the minister,” said Mohanty.
“We also demand a CBI probe into the incident. Our protest has entered the fourth day in Nayagarh. We will continue it for an indefinite period if our demands are not fulfilled,” added Mohanty.
Meanwhile, ruling BJD accused opposition BJP for politicising the issue. “An SIT probe under the leadership of Arun Bothra has been initiated. Everybody knows the Bothra is a sincere officer. He has asked for 15 days of a time to make a considerable progress into the investigation. I don’t understand why the opposition is in so much of hurry,” said BJD vice-president Debi Prasad Mishra.
“The government is pretty much sensitive about the murder of the little girl. Proper investigation into the case will be surely made,” he added.
