Cuttack: Parents dedicate their lives in the upbringing of their children and can go to unbelievable lengths to ensure happiness for their kids. It is, in fact, said that their whole life is a sacrifice for their offsprings.
As the world continues to face Coronavirus pandemic, probably its toughest time in at least a century, lives of people had never witnessed such hardships to ensure survival.
But amid this struggle, parents of Archita, a class 8 student have not stepped back in providing the best they can do for their daughter.
A student of Rodhapur Government Upper Primary School & native of Balisahi village in Salipur block of Cuttack, Archita's family which was already reeling under financial distress suffered a double setback due to COVID lockdown.
Archita was forced to stay at home after her school was closed while her father, Gagan Bhoi, a daily wage labourer was also left jobless after the lockdown.
As she was promoted to her upper class without completion of the annual exam, her school recently announced to adopt online teaching to commence their academic session following the State government's decision.
However, Archita whose family lived hand to mouth had to face difficulties in attending virtual classes without a smartphone and therefore was forced to discontinue her studies.
“I was initially attending the online classes with a friend who lives around two kilometres away from my village. But visiting so far every day was difficult,” narrates Archita.
With no option left, Archita's parents decided to buy her a smartphone so that she could take online classes. But as it was too costly for them, Archita's mother decided to sell her gold earrings that were gifted by her mother during the wedding.
“I and my husband were helpless seeing her missing assignments without a smartphone. Her teachers approached us saying that she is a meritorious student and would be left behind in studies if we do not buy her a mobile phone for the classes, said Archita’s mother, Rita Bhoi.
She continued saying that when they sought help over the matter from Archita's teachers nobody helped them so finally, they decided to sell her jewellery.
