Bhubaneswar: The health machinery in Odisha finds itself on toes following a steep rise in the number of Covid-19 cases in the State.
The State on Thursday witnessed a quantum leap in the new cases after 879 persons were detected with the infection in different districts in the past 24 hours.
The sudden spike took the active Covid-19 caseload to 4888 (excluding today’s recoveries), as per the data available on the government dashboard.
It is pertinent to mention here that Odisha’s daily Covid-19 cases had crossed the 500-mark on April 5 with 573 fresh cases. Prior to March 18, the State had been reporting new cases in double digits. However, barring one day ( March 20), the cases started arriving in three digits afterwards.
Of the 4,888 active cases at present, two districts- Khordha and Sundergarh top the list with 756 and 757 active cases, respectively.
Other districts which have high active Covid-19 case load include- Kalahandi (420), Nuapada (326), Bargarh (308), Cuttack (284), Sambalpur (226), Jharsuguda (186), Angul (168) and Bolangir (137).
With the Corona graph witnessing steady upswing in Odisha over the past few days, the State government on Wednesday issued a notice asking local authorities to remain in full preparedness for functionalization of dedicated Covid care centres on urgent basis.
“With Covid -19 pandemic is increasing day by day in the State, the district authorities are requested to remain in readiness for functionalisation of dedicated Covid Care Centers as and when required following the MoHFW as well as the State guidelines or advisories issued from time to time,” ACS, Health wrote in a letter to all district collectors, municipal commissioners, CDMOs and PHOs.
Already night curfew has been clamped in 10 districts -Sundergarh, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Balangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Malkangiri, Koraput and Nabarangpur since April 5 as a necessary measure to curb the further spread of the virus.
