Bhubaneswar: Classes for students from IX to XII will resume in November for which the guidelines and standard operating procedure (SOP) are being prepared by the School and Mass Education Department.
"A meeting of senior officials was held yesterday to discuss the modalities for the re-opening of Classes from IX to XII. Schools will open in November and the SOP to be followed by the authorities, keeping in view the Covid-19 pandemic situation, is being drafted. It will be ready soon," informed School and Mass Education Minister Sameer Dash.
Dash said discussions will also be held with the district Collectors and district education officers (DEOs) in a phased manner in this regard.
The School and Mass Education department has began consulting the Parents' Association and several other stake holders in order to open schools in November, added the Minister.
On the reduction of syllabus, Dash said, "The State government has already cut the syllabus by 30 percent and there are no possibilities of any further reduction. Besides, the department is planning to prepare the academic calendar in a manner which will focus on the completion of syllabus within a stipulated time."
Parents who are not willing to send their wards to schools, online teaching will be facilitated for them, Dash said.
Earlier on October 31, the Odisha government had allowed the reopening of schools for classes IX to XII from November 16.
Couple of hours later, the government again issued a fresh notification changing its previous order wherein it directed the Department of School & Mass Education to take appropriate decision with regard to the date of re-opening of schools under its control/ superintendence/ supervision in respect of classes from 9th to 12th standard, in a graded manner, after November 15, 2020 in consultation with relevant stakeholders and issue the necessary guidelines/ SOP.
