Bhubaneswar: Odisha on Sunday reported 87 new COVID-19 cases from several districts across the State. This apart, a 72 years old female Covid patient of Puri district succumbed to the virus, taking the COVID-19 death toll to 1916, said the Health and Family Welfare department.
The deceased was also suffering from diabetes mellitus and hypertension, tweeted the State health department.
The State government has directed Collectors, Municipal Commissioners and other administrative officials to keep a close tab on people coming from Maharashtra, Punjab, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh where there has been a surge in COVID-19 cases.
Apart from this, the State government has made home isolation of seven days mandatory for people coming from these five States.
Special surveillance and strict screening mechanism has been put in place at Bhubaneswar and other airports and railway stations in the State.
As per sources, around 4,000 travellers are coming to Odisha from different parts of the country via Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar. The airport is witnessing the arrival and departure of nearly 39 flights on a daily basis.
The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also come up with special screening centres at entry and exit points at the railway station here.
A round-the-clock surveillance and screening centre has also been set up at Rourkela railway station.
