Cuttack: A day after the Orissa High Court lifted curtains over the stalemate on the reduction of fees for students in private schools in view of the COVID-19 pandemic situation, parents are eagerly waiting for an official announcement on the fee structure by schools across the State.
Though several schools in Odisha have started collecting fees from students, several parents are yet to make the payment as they were waiting for the necessary directions from the High Court.
The High Court on Thursday ruled that the reductions would be made as per the recommendations of a high level committee which was earlier constituted for the purpose.
The committee was formed on the direction of the HC after the Odisha government distanced itself from the administrative decisions of private schools and maintained that they were beyond the purview of government control.
Here is a quick look at the slab for reduction of fees as proposed by the Committee headed by School and Mass Education Secretary.
- No reduction of fees in schools charging up to Rs 6,000 from students annually.
- Reduction of 7.5 per cent if the school/s is charging fees between Rs 6,000 and Rs 12,000 per annum.
- 15 per cent and 20 per cent fee cut in schools charging Rs 24,000-Rs 48,000 and Rs 48,000-Rs 72,000 per annum, respectively.
- For educational institutions charging between Rs 72,000 and Rs 1,00,000 per annum, the committee has recommended 25 per cent cut.
- 26 per cent fee reduction in schools charging more than Rs 1,00,000 per year.
- The Committee has also recommended the reduction of fees by 30 % for residential schools.
