Bhubaneswar: The COVID-19 graph in Odisha got even steeper after over 500 positive cases were reported in the last 24 hours. With 561 cases today, Odisha witnessed its highest single-day spike.
What is more surprising is the fact that there has also been a rise in COVID-19 infection within several important healthcare institutions in the State. As per official sources, as many as 77 new COVID-19 cases were reported from three major hospitals in the State.
Of the 77 COVID-19 cases, 55 have been reported from Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Centre (AHRCC), 11 from SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack and 11 from the Pulmonary department of AIIMS, Bhubaneswar.
The 55 cases reported from AHRCC includes 18 patients, 36 attendants & one staff nurse.
Ruling out community spread, Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) Commissioner Ananya Das informed that nearly 400 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in AHRCC in the last 3 days. “All the positive cases reported from AHRCC are from isolation ward and linked to one contact. All of them did not have any community interaction,” said Das.
Das further informed that when the first COVID-19 case was detected in AHRCC, a massive contact tracing was conducted.
“The entire isolation ward is being sanitised and all the patients who have tested negative for COVID-19 are being shifted to other places within the hospital premises,” said Das.
CMC Commissioner further stated that COVID-19 surveillance is being expanded to several vulnerable areas like Malgodown and Chhatrabazar apart from regular door-to-door screening in the city.
