Bhubaneswar: Coronavirus cases continue to surge in all States across India post easing of major restrictions in the fourth phase of lockdown. The COVID tally in Odisha today breached the 1500 mark after detection of 79 fresh cases.
Of the new cases, Cuttack has reported 16 positives, Ganjam 5, Jajpur 2, Balasore 4, Khurda 4, Puri 4, Kendrapara 6, Nayagarh 3, Bolangir 14, Angul 1, Keonjhar 8, Kandhamal 7, Dhenkanal 3 and Jharsuguda 1 case.
The tentacles of the contagious disease have spread to Sonepur where one person has tested positive. Only Rayagada is untouched by COVID-19 as fortunately the district hasn't reported a single positive case so far.
Meanwhile, the government has shared the details of the fresh cases. While 71 are from quarantine centres, rest 8 are local cases, informed I&PR department.
As of now, Odisha's active cases stand at 861 while there are seven fatalities.
Recent modification in discharge and quarantine norms by Odisha government is very likely to change the recovery scenario. The State Health & Family Welfare department on May 24 said that quarantine period for returnee(s) to rural areas will be limited to 14 days. The returnee(s) in rural areas will undergo 7 days of mandatory institutional quarantine, after which asymptomatic returnee(s) shall be discharged to undergo home quarantine for a further period of 7 days.
The impact is the State has posted a big rise in cure rate. As many as 649 patients have been cured so far, which means the cure rate which was below 20% a few days has now jumped to 42.8%.
As per H&FW's revised guidelines, quarantine period in urban areas has been modified to the effect that every person after returning to Odisha shall have to compulsorily stay in home quarantine for a period of 14 days. Any person travelling to Odisha on work and intending to exit within 72 hours or travelled from Odisha on work and is returning to the State within 72 hours of departure from Odisha, and returnees who have already undergone prescribed quarantine are exempted from mandatory quarantine.
Odisha conducted 3819 RT-PCR tests in the last 24 hours. The total samples tested till now stand at 131595.
