Bhubaneswar: Even after Odisha’s COVID-19 graph continues an upward trend, the Director of Institute of Life Sciences (ILS) in Bhubaneswar, Ajay Parida is hopeful that the daily cases will decline after a peak in the first week of September.
Speaking to media Parida said, “The number of daily COVID-19 cases in Odisha will peak in the first week of September and is likely to go down thereafter. The number of testing has increased in the State, while the rate of infection has declined. This is a positive sign.”
“The Centre and the State government have adopted an aggressive ‘testing, tracing and treatment’ strategy to keep the virus in check. Both infection and mortality rates are low in Odisha. If this trend continues, then we will be in a better position,” Parida added.
However, the virus is highly unpredictable as can be observed in Kerala, which is experiencing a second wave. Keeping this in view, 120 samples from different districts of Odisha have been collected to study the nature of the virus.
Odisha’s novel coronavirus tally surged to 62,294 on Monday with 2,244 new cases, while ten more fatalities pushed the death toll to 353. Currently, the state now has 19,612 active cases, while 42,276 patients have recovered from the disease.
In the last 24 hours, Odisha has conducted 50,411 COVID-19 tests including 5,639 RT-PCR, 44,640 antigen and 142 TrueNAT tests.
