Bhubaneswar: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today cornered the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Odisha over the alleged kidnapping, rape and murder of a five-year-old Nayagarh girl ‘Pari’.
Lekhasri Samantsinghar, general secretary of the State BJP unit, on Saturday raised questions over the police investigation into the case and accused BJD Minister Arun Sahoo of shielding the prime suspect, Babuli Nayak.
"Instead of taking action against the prime suspect Babuli Nayak, who is also a ganja trader, and Minister Arun Sahoo for his alleged complicity in the case, the police have arrested a youth and claiming that he is the accused. If Arun Bothra, chief of the Special Investigation Team, could make headway in the case by doing DNA analysis of Pari's cloths, why did the Nayagarh SP could not find out the same in the last five years," questioned Samantsinghar.
The BJP leader also demanded immediate removal of the SIT chief and said if the cash for crime allegations against Bothra are true, it is very serious. It is pertinent to mention here that a youth, Saroj Sethi, of Jadupur village recently alleged that Bothra offered to pay him Rs 5 lakh if he owned up the crime.
She further alleged that attempts are being made to suppress the case by using SIT as organ smuggling racket is linked to the crime.
"Whom does the Odisha Police DG trying to save by telling lies? The BJD is the centre-point of the crime which is a case of kidnapping, child trafficking and organ trading," she alleged.
On the other hand, BJP activists of took out a rally in Balasore demanding arrest of Babuli Nayak and resignation of Arun Sahoo.
Meanwhile, the BJP has announced to launch ‘Padayatras’ across the State from December 15 to 20 to make people aware about the misgivings of the State government. Demanding justice for the minor girl, thee party will also launch a mega padayatra from Bhubaneswar to Pari’s village Jadupur on December 21.
