Koraput: In a new twist to the ongoing border dispute between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, residents of Badlammida village under Dumuriguda block in Visakhapatnam district alleged that the residents of Sambai Panchayat in Koraput district have destroyed around three acres of coffee plantations in their area on Monday.
Badlammida villagers further alleged that the coffee farms were destroyed by people from Odisha’s side after a few administrative officials from the state intruded into the bordering areas in Andhra Pradesh. Few local leaders of both the states reportedly visited the area following the incident.
Earlier on November 13, the residents of four villages from the neighbouring state’s side had staged a road blockade at Sunabeda village under Potangi block in the district.
As per reports, some residents of Andhra Pradesh had demolished an information board put up by the Odisha’s administrative officials in the bordering areas. They blocked the road by placing stones while protesting against the positioning of the signboard demarcating the borders of the two states.
According to sources, officials from the Andhra Pradesh government had recently entered Odisha’s territory and demarcated areas before putting up an information board. Following the receipt of the information, the Koraput district administration had removed the board and placed it at its previous position.
However, the move did not go down well with the residents of nearby village under the jurisdiction of the neighbouring State.
It is worth mentioning that the borders between Andhra Pradesh and Odisha were discussed and demarcations carried out way back in 1953 when the neighbouring state was formed.
