Bhubaneswar: BJP's Lok Sabha member from Bargarh, Suresh Pujari has urged Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik to bring back the doctors transferred from western Odisha to other districts on Covid duty.
Pujari, on Sunday conveyed his concerns through a letter stating that people in the western-Odisha districts are already suffering with rising COVID-19 cases. Transferring doctors to other districts during such a trying time could aggravate the health care situation in the region.
Mentioning his home district, Pujari wrote, “Bargarh has a 50% vacancy as against the sanctioned strength of doctors in the district. In addition to that, three more physicians were transferred elsewhere on 23 July 2020 citing COVID-19 duty.”
Pujari termed the move as deprivation and discrimination against the people of western Odisha that has the potential of adversely affecting the medical services in the region.
The MP requested the CM to take note of the sentiment of the people of western-odisha and terminate the transfer orders of those doctors and get them back to their previous place of posting including that of Bargarh district.
Notably, with exploding COVID-19 cases in Ganjam, Odisha government on 14 July 2020 had deployed as many as 100 doctors (AMOs/HMOs) along with 30 medical officers (MBBS doctors) in the district after transferring them from other regions for effective management of the pandemic situation.
