Rayagada: A minor girl was allegedly raped by a man after the former's stepmother left her at the house of the accused in Chandili in Rayagada district. The matter came to light after relatives of the minor girl lodged a complaint at the Chandili police station on Thursday.
As per reports, the minor girl alleged that her step mother wanted her to marry one Binod Khara. Therefore, on the pretext of visiting a hospital, the woman took the girl to Khara's home and left her alone. Later, the accused allegedly raped the girl.
"I was in Bhubaneswar when my brother's wife took the girl to the Khara's house. We have filed a police complaint after the girl levelled rape allegation against Khara," a relative of the girl said.
On the other hand, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has taken the girl into its custody.
"We have already recorded the girl's statement and the CWC will take care of her rehabilitation," chairperson of the committee, Rajkishore Sahu said.

"As the incident took place under the Chandili police station, I have directed them to register a case. After an investigation, appropriate action will be taken," said Inspector-in-Charge of Rayagada police station Krushna Chandra Bhatra.
