Balasore: Protesting the alleged illegal sale of liquor and inaction by police and district administration, women of Baunsabania panchayat under Oupada block of Balasore district organised a protest rally.
Shouting slogan like 'Jiban Chanhu, Mada Nuhen', hundreds of women of the panchayat took out the protest rally from Dakhina Kuanrpur to Gobardhanpur.
They alleged that due to presence of a liquor outlet at Dakhina Kuanrpur, the male members of their families drink liquor everyday and pick up quarrel with them. Even the youths and educated people of the panchayat were gradually getting habituated to drink, they added.
The protestors further alleged that despite repeated appeals to local police station and district administration to take measures to shut liquor the outlet and check the illegal sale of alcohol in the panchayat, no action is being taken.
The women threatened to gherao all the offices of the district administration in Nilagiri and the Collectorate, unless action is taken against the liquor mafias at the earliest.
"We want the illegal sale of alcohol in our area to stop. Despite repeated appeals to the concerned district administration and police, our complaints have remained unheard. If this trade continues, we will intensify the protest," threatened a protestor, Madhusmita Behera.
