Dhenkanal: The Lawyers' Association of Dhenkanal has threatened to launch an agitation over the alleged mismanagement in handling Covid-19 situation like failure in ensuring proper healthcare delivery at designated Covid-19 hospitals, denial of due cremation of victims in the town.
They have also complained against city municipal authorities for not carrying out necessary sanitisation drive in the town despite unabated spike in cases of novel-Coronavirus.
Some representatives of the lawyers' body approached Dhenkanal Collector, Bhumesh Chandra Behera on Friday and submitted a memorandum demanding better facilities to manage the virus outbreak situation in the town failing.
The district Collector has sought a time period till October 20 to fulfil their demands, informed the lawyers' body.
Ex-chief of the district lawyer association, Sanjay Mishra, alleged, "The municipality and district headquarters hospital exists only for name, they are doing nothing to manage the Covid-19 situation in the city. They have failed to ensure adequate Covid-19 treatment at the hospital. Money is being offered to get negative Coronavirus test report."
"Covid-19 victims are being buried while as per Hindu tradition, the dead bodies of the people should be cremated. The people deployed at the burial grounds are not burying the bodies properly and they are being dragged by strays dogs and jackals," claimed Mishra.
Asked about the issue, the district Collector assured that separate cremation ground will be identified for performing the last rites of Hindu people. "If a Hindu family wants their member to be cremated instead of burial, it will be done accordingly and instructions for the same have been given. We will also identify a ground which will be used for cremating Covid-19 victims," said Behera.
